Work Experience

2023 - 2024

Nørlum/Tall and Small

Background Painter Undisclosed TV show, in production. Airs on danish TV in the fall of 2024

I worked closely together with the Art Director, adapting concept paintings and layouts into backgrounds matching the style of the show. This included conveying B/W concepts into finished backgrounds, using my sense for color to match the style and mood of the show.

Besides backgrounds I was also involved in the creation of layouts and prop making, keeping up good communications with the animation and compositing departments all the while.

The Compositing Supervisor praised my willingness to help their department by saving out new layers for them and adding more details to shots.

I was told I have a good sense for what layers they need.

I further contributed to the team by aiding my Superior as well as our Junior Artist by being flexible in sharing the work and knowledge between us.

2023

Nørlum/Qvisten

Background Artist Emil, a Christmas special.

I was the lead Background Artist, responsible for translating book illustrations into backgrounds, according to the Art Directors instructions regarding style.  To ensure continuity of the overall look I painted key backgrounds to be used as a color script. I assembled a brush set that would achieve the desired look of the film, then carefully Instructed the other artists in replicating the style. I worked closely with the Animation Supervisor to troubleshoot technical difficulties with some shots and to maintain a good workflow for both of us. I created layouts and backgrounds while keeping a tight deadline and staying flexible to requests by the Art Director.

2022

Nørlum/Qvisten

Background Painter Kajsa, a Christmas special.

Working, closely with the Background Supervisor I adapted 3D previsualisations into smoothly rendered, painted backgrounds.  I painted some of the key images, ensuring to keep continuity within the style.

Nørlum

Background Painter Tales of Zale, a  TV show in development

This project was a teaser for the TV show, to be used as pitch material for funding. I worked on Visual development, communicating closely with the Director in order to translate concept art and mood boards into a style that would suit a TV show production. My main objective was to balance a painterly art style with the smaller budget TV shows often have, as well as conveying the mood of an overgrown abandoned world.  This lead me to experiment with brushes and customize them to suit those needs. I painted some of final Backgrounds for the teaser as well

2021

AV Design

Background Painter Lego Space Education, a series of Shorts.

I was hired to help finish a series of educational short films the studio was tasked with creating for the LEGO group. The job consisted of adding painterly flair to rough 3D previsualisations. Quickly adapting to the process I essentially helped achieve the 3D look without the time consuming texture and lighting work.  This method reduces modeling and render time, ultimately making production faster

DragonBee Studio

Background Artist. The wedding veil of the proud princess. A short film.

Assisted the Director/Lead Artist with painting backgrounds. I quickly adapted to the style and painted backgrounds while staying consistent.

2020 - 2021

Young Don the Sauce God

Lead Background Artist Young Don The Sauce God. A series of short story videos for Youtube.,

Initially hired as a Background Painter I later advanced to lead 3 other Background Painters while we produced backgrounds for 2 shorts over a period of 2 weeks. My job consisted of managing the projects, while still partaking in the production.  I created a google sheet overview of the projects, both the individual shorts and the projects in a timeline. This lead me to develop strong time management skills and become accustomed to tight deadlines. I had to organize my workflow, in order to meet the daily quotas of a preset video upload schedule. I painted color scripts and created layouts and backgrounds for an array of short videos.

2019

Nørlum

Color Artist/Background Painter The Ape Star.  A theatrical feature film

I worked as a Color Artist, creating the color design of the film based on the directors wishes and painted multiple color keys for the Background Artist to work from. Later in production I continued working as a Background Artist, using my good observation skills to replicate the painterly art style

A Disney Produced TV show based on the animated feature big Hero 6. Freelancing

Background Painter and illustrator

I Freelance, mainly as a 2D Background Painter, for animation.

Working freelance gives me the opportunity to also involve myself in illustration work, which I quite enjoy.   For example I paint an annual Christmas calendar for a business that creates local calendars across the country.
